About the Cast
MARK PHILLIPS (Sam)
MARK PHILLIPS is a Bay Area actor whose theatrical credits include work
With the American Conservatory Theatre, Berkeley Rep, California
Shakespeare Festival, and the Marin Theatre Company. Mark won the Bay
Area Drama Critics' Circle Award for Outstanding Lead Performance for
his work in the West Coast premiere of Stones in His Pockets (at the
Magic Theatre), and again the following year for The Grapes of Wrath (at
Theatre Works). He has appeared on television's Nash Bridges and in the
independent film Seldom Dreaming. Mark is a member of Actors' Equity and
the Screen Actors Guild.
J.P. ALLEN (Eddy)
J.P. Allen is a writer, actor and director based in the Bay Area. He
recently completed his first film, COFFEE AND LANGUAGE, which showed in
the 2002 Victoria and Hampton Film Festivals. He has had plays produced
in Denver, Seattle, Vancouver and Edmonton, CANADA. He performed his
solo show, GAMBLING at the Victory Theatre (under the direction of
Hunter) in Burbank, CA, which received critical acclaim in the LA Times
and LA Weekly. He has starred in many of his own plays, and also played
the title role in MACBETH and a leading role in THE CRUCIBLE. He
completed his BA in theatre at the University of Texas in Austin,
studied for a brief time at Cal Arts before going on to San Francisco
State to receive his M.A. in playwriting. He is currently starring in a
film production of GAMBLING, which has been adapted to a novel and
screenplay since the original run of the stage play in Burbank.
KIM ATAIDE (Sally)
Kim Ataide, who currently resides in Chicago, has extensive stage acting
experience. Her local credits include performances at the Equity Library
Theatre, The Shakespeare Project, Chicago Shakespeare, Drury Lane, The
Court Theatre, and Illinois Theatre Centre. She has worked regionally at
The Grove Shakespeare, Idaho Shakespeare Festival, and Illinois
Shakespeare Festival. She holds a BFA in theatre arts from UC Irvine and
a MFA in acting from California Institute of the Arts.
PAT EVERETT (Patrick)
Pat Everett is a Bay Area stage and film actor, who has worked
extensively in productions around San Francisco, including many of
Hunter's and Allen's productions. Everett met the directors when he
auditioned for and obtained a leading role in Hunter's play SAILING,
which was produced at Studio Eremos in San Francisco. His other stage
performances include roles in plays such as Ray Bradbury's INTO THE
CHICAGO ABYSS at Bannam Place Theatre, San Francisco and SONG ACROSS THE
SEA OF TIME at the Marsh Theatre, also in SF. He has appeared in several
plays in the PLAYGROUND SERIES, currently sponsored by A Traveling
Jewish Theatre (San Francisco). He is a member of the Screen Actors
Guild.
MATTHEW DAVIS (Skip)
Matthew has an extensive and impressive stage background. He studied
acting at Cal Arts where he received his MA and appeared in numerous
productions before going on to work four consecutive years at the Oregon
Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. He performed non-stop for those
four years, including leading roles in plays such as ALL MY SONS, CYRANO
de BERGERAC, GOD'S COUNTRY and A WINTER'S TALE among many others. He
currently resides in Milan, Italy.
BRENDA HAYES (Justine)
BRENDA HAYES' credits include co-starring and recurring roles in ER and
MAX HEADROOM, respectively; featured roles in the movies PLAIN CLOTHES,
LITTLE BOY BLUE, EMPTY CRADLE, BURGLAR and the award-winning short,
DREAM STREET. Stage work includes Masha in Mud-Luscious Theatre
Ensemble's production last year of THE THREE SISTERS. For the Oregon
Shakespeare Festival, roles included Dabney Bryant in OUR COUNTRY'S
GOOD, Rose in THE RECRUITING OFFICER, and Masha in THE SEAGULL; Sheila
in THE BOYS NEXT DOOR for Minneapolis' Mixed Blood Theatre; Lil in LAST
SUMMER AT BLUEFISH COVE at The Morgan Wixon Theater in Santa Monica;
Lone Wolf in the world premiere of LONE WOLF RHAPSODY at LATC; Hedda in
HEDDA GABLER; Hermione in THE WINTER'TALE; Janet in WAITING FOR THE
PARADE and Lyuba in THE CHERRY ORCHARD for CalArts Rep. She is a member
of the Screen Actors Guild.
Laurel Hunter (Mary)
Laurel Hunter studied acting in her home town of Denver, Colorado where
she appeared in leading roles and productions such as ANYONE CAN
WHISTLE, THE ADDING MACHINE, AGNES OF GOD and many others. She has also
performed extensively in the Canadian theatre scene, at the Edmonton and
Vancouver Fringe Festivals and Pacific Theatre, among others. She was a
founding member of PLAYGROUND, the play reading series that originated
at San Francisco State University where she appeared in numerous roles
over a period of five years. In addition to her work there, she also had
a leading role in FUENTE OVEJUNA at San Francisco's Studio Theatre. She
has also performed at the New City Theatre in Seattle, Washington.
Her film credits include a leading role in the independent film, THE
DISAPPEARING. She has appeared in minor and extra roles in films such as
SOUL MAN, A SMILE LIKE YOURS, DESPERATE MEASURES, GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE,
ED TV and Walt Disney's TOTALLY MINNIE. Her Commercial credits include
MOTOROLA and others. She is a member of the Screen Actors Guild.
